Job Description

Position Overview

Our Pediatrics Department is seeking a WIC Clerk to join the Gulf Gate location at 3329 Telephone Road, Houston, TX 77023. At UTHealth Houston – Texas’ resource for healthcare education, innovation, scientific discovery, and excellence in patient care – you will play a key role in supporting the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). Key Responsibilities

  • Greet clients upon arrival, screen their appointment needs, and manage future scheduling while answering incoming telephone calls.
  • Screen and verify WIC participant eligibility using federal, state, and local guidelines, entering data into the participant’s electronic medical record and making social services referrals as needed.
  • Obtain and document participant height, weight measurements, and/or fingerstick blood samples according to established procedures.
  • Issue food benefits and explain WIC benefits and redemption procedures to new participants, including scheduling return appointments.
  • Perform other related clerical duties as required.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant work experience in public contact, healthcare, or social service settings.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to adhere to physical requirements (occasional exertion up to 20 pounds, frequent up to 10 pounds).
  • Must meet security-sensitive position guidelines as outlined by applicable state codes.
  • Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
