Job Description
Position Overview
Our client is seeking a talented and creative Product Development Engineer to lead the design and development of state-of-the-art fitness equipment. In this role you will design, prototype, and refine equipment that sets the benchmark for performance, durability, and user experience. Location: Houston, Texas (Fully Onsite). Compensation: $80,000 – $95,000 annually.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop innovative fitness equipment from concept through production
- Create detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and specifications using CAD software
- Collaborate with product managers, industrial designers, and subject-matter experts to ensure designs meet user needs and market expectations
- Optimize designs for ergonomics, biomechanics, and safety while balancing performance and durability
- Prototype and test equipment, analyzing performance data and refining designs
- Select materials and manufacturing processes that optimize quality, cost, and sustainability
- Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies for future product integration
- Partner with manufacturing teams to ensure smooth transfer from prototype to production
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in product design or mechanical engineering (fitness equipment, consumer products, or related industries preferred)
- Strong prototyping and testing experience with the ability to iterate based on performance data and user feedback
- Understanding of fitness training principles
- Proficiency in CAD software and simulation tools (ANSYS, MATLAB, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of biomechanics, kinematics, exercise physiology, and material science
- Ability to design and conduct controlled experiments
- Strong data analysis skills, including statistical testing and comparison methods
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Experience integrating smart technology (sensors, IoT, app connectivity) into products
- Experience with sensors, microcontrollers, and user interface development for fitness or consumer devices
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (ASTM, ISO)
- Ability to remain seated for extended periods (7+ hours)
- Ability to stand, walk, lift parts, and assemble prototypes
- Ability to reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed
- Ability to perform precise hand and finger movements for typing, data entry, and object manipulation
