Position Overview
Wayne State University is seeking an experienced Engineer - Third Class to perform operation and maintenance of heating, ventilating, and mechanical equipment at its Detroit campus. Location: Detroit campus, Detroit, Michigan
Compensation: Hourly Wage $29.39
Key Responsibilities
- Perform operation and maintenance of heating, ventilating, and mechanical equipment in the assigned area.
- Check buildings—including classrooms, offices, stairwells, hallways, and restrooms—to ensure proper temperature and comfort levels, and adjust thermostats as necessary.
- Monitor pumps, condensate tanks, valves, water heaters, reduction valves, swimming pool equipment, boilers, and plumbing systems.
- Make running repairs on equipment, such as replacing stems and seats on valves and traps, controlling flow by operating gate, globe, or butterfly valves.
- Clean plenum chambers, fans, boiler rooms, filter chambers, and other areas designated for heating and ventilation.
- Respond to calls for service and perform other duties as assigned, ensuring availability during emergency closures as an Essential Personnel.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Training in a Stationary Engineer Trade School or a recognized apprentice program.
- Possession of a Third Class Steam Engineer's license from the City of Detroit.
- Some related experience in pipefitting and general maintenance.
- Ability to access equipment located at various heights and angles, from below ground level to several stories high.
- Capability to work under varying environmental and potentially hazardous conditions while employing appropriate safety precautions.
- Must obtain security clearance.
