Finance, Planning, and Budgeting (FPB) encompasses the major central financial, planning, analytical, and budgeting functions for the University of Washington, including:

The FPB Financial Reporting team reports to the University Controller’s Office and is responsible for providing UW’s consolidated financial reporting and other enterprise‑critical financial and accounting operations oversight for the University. The Senior Financial Reporting Analyst is responsible for supporting the timely and accurate preparation of the University‑wide financial statements in accordance with the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), detailed supporting schedules and footnotes, analysis of results, and execution of complex, specialized, and judgment‑intensive technical accounting projects. They provide support to campus customers on accounting topics and serve as one of the subject matter experts in the Financial Reporting group on accounting and reporting matters.
Duties & Responsibilities
Data Management and Analytics
Responsible for the Enterprise level monthly, quarterly and annual financial the position will be responsible for assisting the team in the execution of regular period closes to generate Workday financial reporting.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting cycles in Workday, ensuring timely and accurate enterprise-wide results.
- Prepare and review journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, elimination activity, and supporting schedules for University‑wide GASB‑based financial statements.
- Contribute to the preparation of the UW Annual Financial Report and ACFR submissions, including footnotes, schedules, and the Statement of Cash Flows.
- Conduct complex technical accounting research and recommend the appropriate application of GASB, state accounting policies, and University standards.
- Translate complex financial information into clear, concise insights and executive-ready materials for senior leadership and governance bodies.
- Perform complex reconciliation processes, including leading the quarterly General Ledger Reconciliation Process (GLARP), identifying discrepancies, and strengthening controls.
Campus Support
- Serve as a subject matter expert for campus units on accounting treatments, reporting implications, and new or emerging GASB and state accounting requirements.
- Provide analytical support, ad‑hoc reporting, and root‑cause analyses to campus partners and leadership.
- Support fiscal year‑end, biennium close, and other institution‑critical accounting cycles.
- Advise campus units on the financial and compliance implications of accounting treatments and reporting choices.
Accounting, Fiscal Oversight, and Special Projects
- Identify improvement opportunities across financial accounting and reporting processes and lead or support implementation efforts.
- Evaluate and update accounting policies, reporting methodologies, and data governance practices to strengthen compliance and operational effectiveness.
- Contribute to high‑visibility, cross‑unit initiatives requiring advanced technical expertise, project management, and independent problem‑solving.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree: in Accounting or related field and five years of experience in full scope accounting, including use of data analysis tools
- Demonstrated proficiency: with Microsoft Excel including the ability to design, build, document and maintain complex workbooks in a user-friendly, intuitive and logical manner
- Demonstrated ability: to analyze, interpret and explain financial results, and to formulate and implement process improvements.

- Demonstrated experience: in working on diverse groups and teams; create a culture of inclusion and equity throughout the team while supporting the overall culture of FPB
Desired
- Experience in public accounting
- CPA license or demonstrated progress toward CPA designation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
Compensation, Benefits And Position Details
Pay Range Minimum: $96,960.00 annual
Pay Range Maximum: $118,476.00 annual
