Job Description

Position Overview

The Patient Care Technician plays a vital role in supporting patient care by assisting with activities of daily living and monitoring patients’ conditions under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. This role spans multiple specialized units – including Orthopedic, Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation, Medical/Surgical, Cardiac, Neurology, Respiratory, Trauma, and Mother Baby/Women’s and Peds units – where technicians provide hands-on care such as taking vital signs, assisting with hygiene and ambulation, and tracking intake and output. In many areas, there is opportunity for growth to a Multi-Skilled Technician role that includes responsibilities in cardiac monitoring and unit coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with personal care needs including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and ambulation.
  • Obtain and record vital signs and blood sugar levels at designated times.
  • Monitor and document patient intake and output accurately.
  • Support clinical teams in various settings such as orthopedics, medical/surgical, neurology, respiratory, trauma, and cardiac progressive care.
  • When designated, perform additional duties as a Multi-Skilled Technician including cardiac monitoring and unit coordination.

Required Qualifications

  • Qualifications: Must meet one of the following criteria:
    1.) Hold a Florida licensure as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Paramedic, or be licensed under military designations (Hospital Corpsman, Combat Medic Specialist, or Aerospace Medical Service Specialist); or hold National licensure as an EMT that remains active during employment.
    2.) Be a nursing student eligible for the CNA exam (enrolled in or a graduate of an accredited Nursing school, having completed initial clinical requirements) and not currently licensed as a RN or LPN.
    3.) Possess certification as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) or CNA from a Florida State Board approved program, with the requirement to obtain a Florida CNA license within 120 days of graduation.
  • Education: High School Diploma, GED, or Certificate.
  • Requirements: Must possess Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification.
