Position Overview
East Bay Innovations in Oakland, CA is seeking an Independent Living Instructor for a Non-Profit Social Work role. In this entry‐level position you will work one-on-one with people with developmental disabilities who live independently, empowering them to achieve personal independence and community participation. You will teach essential life skills in a motivating, personalized environment with a caseload of approximately 5–9 clients concentrated throughout Alameda County. Salary: $25.00 per hour. This role is part-time to full-time (9AM–7PM, Monday through Friday, including driving time) and provides a great opportunity to gain experience in social work, social services, occupational therapy, mental health, or case management.
Key Responsibilities
- Work one-on-one with clients to build life skills and enhance independence.
- Support clients with money management and budgeting.
- Guide clients in managing medical, dental, and medication schedules.
- Teach basic cooking, meal preparation, and household maintenance.
- Assist clients withutilizing public transportation, locating affordable housing, and obtaining essential benefits (Social Security, Medi-Cal, Medicare, etc.).
- Encourage community involvement and socialization goals.
Required Qualifications
- No prior experience required – we value passion and a desire to make a difference.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage and motivate clients.
- Willingness to undergo training and learn on the job.
- Commitment to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
