Position: FT Patient Outreach Services Specialist, working under the supervision of the Outreach Supervisor or designee, responsible for both technical and non-technical duties at WellStar Laboratory Outreach specimen collection locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform Patient Registrations: Verify lab orders (Epic/Manual) for patient identification, testing, and insurance details; register patients accurately across multiple systems; and ensure all essential patient information and test order details are documented.
- Collaborate with Physicians and Office Staff: Work closely with healthcare professionals to verify test orders and ensure that lab results and critical information are communicated promptly.
- Provide Customer Service Support: Assist physicians, office staff, and patients by resolving billing issues, reprinting lab reports when needed, and handling follow-up calls for specimen re-collection.
- Ensure Quality Assurance & Safety Compliance: Perform daily QA checks on equipment, conduct quarterly safety and chemical inventory inspections, maintain accurate records, and comply with CLIA and CAP guidelines.
- Conduct Phlebotomy and Specimen Processing: Collect specimens following proper identification and safety protocols, package specimens in accordance with DOT guidelines, and process testing kits correctly.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association required upon hire.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in computer registration (experience via WellStar Lab Outreach externship is a plus).
- Minimum 1 year of customer service and/or phlebotomy and specimen processing experience preferred.
- Excellent customer service, verbal and written communication, computer, multi-tasking, and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and composure under stressful conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with WellStar EPIC system and Quest/Lab Corp systems.
- Exposure to laboratory specimen processing, phlebotomy procedures, and related clinical practices.
- Familiarity with CLIA and CAP requirements and national patient safety goals.
