Job Description

Position Overview

The Marketing & Communications Specialist helps drive MCUL’s communications efforts through project coordination, content development, and light design. Based in a hybrid environment in Lansing, MI (reporting to the Lansing office two days per week), the role supports campaigns, manages project intake, and contributes to presentations, digital platforms, and social media while working closely with the VP and Director of Communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage creative project intake requests and maintain the department’s project pipeline.
  • Coordinate timelines, deadlines, and resource needs across the communications team.
  • Track deliverables, monitor project status, and flag risks or bottlenecks early.
  • Maintain and update project management workflows in Monday.com and organize digital asset libraries.
  • Conduct topic research and prepare outlines or talking points for presentations.
  • Develop campaign content for newsletters, digital platforms, and email communications (Mailchimp).
  • Support graphic design by using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite, updating website content, and building PowerPoint presentations.
  • Produce digital graphics, social media assets, event banners, and other promotional materials.
  • Support the social media presence by scheduling posts, publishing content, and tracking engagement while monitoring trends.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Digital Media or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in marketing, communications, or digital content roles.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects, timelines, or content workflows in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience creating digital content across platforms (social, web, email, presentations) and collaborating with design or marketing teams.
  • Proficiency in Canva, PowerPoint, Mailchimp, Adobe Creative Suite, and familiarity with content management systems.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to interpret analytics and compile performance insights.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage shifting priorities.
