The Telecommunications Equipment Installer IV – Lead role is responsible for installing and maintaining telecommunication equipment—including fiber, transport equipment, and critical infrastructures—in customer technical spaces such as central offices, data centers, and mobile switch centers.
Key Responsibilities
- Physically place, remove, or modify working and non-working equipment.
- Install superstructure components in support of cabling systems (auxiliary bars, threaded rods, cable trays, etc.).
- Cut, file, drill, and modify infrastructure components using various tools (bandsaw, hammer drill, jigsaw, etc.).
- Install data equipment cabinets, servers, switches, routers, and other network devices.
- Terminate connections to BDFBs and fuse panels.
- Identify, label, measure, terminate, and route power cables and fiber optic/copper cables in compliance with safety standards.
- Set up and install power distribution units (PDUs) ensuring redundancy and proper load balancing.
- Conduct testing on hardware and software, including fiber light meter, CAT5/6, and volt ohm meter testing.
- Perform advanced test and turn-up and integration activities.
- Resolve equipment and technical issues as they arise.
- Read and interpret specifications, blueprints, schematics, and method of procedures (MOPs).
- Perform quality validation on in-process and completed work and complete operations paperwork.
- Oversee less experienced installers and act as a customer contact for project status updates.
- Interact with Installation, Engineering, and Project Management teams.
- Adhere to and promote compliance with Federal and Local Occupational Safety and Health Regulations, Industry Consensus Standards, and the Circet USA Injury and Illness Prevention Program Manual. Participate in job site safety/hazard analysis.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or college degree preferred.
- Minimum of six years of experience or equivalent technical skills in central office equipment/data center installation.
- Clear understanding of AT&T, Telcordia, and/or Verizon Quality Standards.
- Experience with telecommunications equipment (e.g., Dell, HP, Arista, Ciena, Fujitsu, Cisco, Calix, Adtran, Nortel, Nokia).
- Background in fiber optic cable and AC/DC power installation/testing practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft programs, IOS, and/or Android applications.
- Ability to read technical drawings and documentation.
- Good mechanical aptitude and familiarity with basic power tools.
- Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
- BICSI certification is a plus.
- Ability to read, interpret, and write documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and reports.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical operations in various units of measure.
- Exhibit leadership, self-awareness, continuous learning, enthusiasm, industry awareness, and exceptional organizational skills.
- Ability to travel, valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation for job-related tools and equipment.
Compensation
Pay Range in the United States: $24 - $40 per hour based on geography, skills, and experience. May also be eligible for a performance incentive opportunity based on company and individual goals.
