Job Description

Position Overview

Domtar is a leading producer of pulp, paper, packaging, tissue and wood products committed to safety, sustainability, and operational excellence. Located in Coosa Pines, Alabama 35044, the Project Engineer role is full‑time and onsite, supporting engineering functions by utilizing established best practices and overseeing the mill capital program through strategic planning, budgeting, and project implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering services in support of maintenance work requests, capital projects, and process modifications.
  • Maintain mill engineering standards and policies.
  • Support plant health, safety, environmental, and quality strategies to protect employees, company property, and ensure compliance.
  • Oversee and provide engineering expertise to the mill‑wide Management of Change (MOC) review process.
  • Prepare capital appropriation requests as part of the mill strategic capital plan.
  • Manage permanent and contract engineering resources in support of mill maintenance and capital development.
  • Oversee the proposal and project‑specific specifications including P&IDs, numbering, tagging, and managing project timelines and budgets.
  • Coordinate training for Operators and Maintenance technicians as needed.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, properly stored in designated repositories including CMMS systems, and accessible to relevant stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Engineering project management experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft Office and industry‑specific software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of material balance, process engineering, process controls, plant hydraulics, and process safety management.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant industry experience.
