Job Description

Position Overview

The Vital Role of a Respiratory Therapist at UofL Health is to help patients breathe better by assessing, diagnosing, and treating respiratory health conditions to achieve the best possible outcomes. In this role you will evaluate lung function through diagnostic tests, including pulmonary function tests, and work collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers to develop detailed, individualized treatment plans.

This opportunity also offers the chance to apply for the Respiratory Care Practitioner-Student mandatory certification during your second year of respiratory therapy school, providing valuable PRN work experience at UofL Health facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose, and treat respiratory health conditions.
  • Perform diagnostic tests, including pulmonary function tests, to evaluate lung function.
  • Collaborate with physicians and health care providers to develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide patient care in multiple health care settings to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Apply for Respiratory Care Practitioner-Student certification as part of your academic training.

Required Qualifications

  • Compassion, sensitivity, and empathy towards patients and their families.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Dexterity for performing precise tasks and hands-on patient care.
  • Ability to adapt and handle high-stress situations effectively.
  • Customer service skills to help calm anxious patients and family members.
  • Educational background in respiratory therapy (Associate or Bachelor degree) required to sit for the National Board for Respiratory Care examination.
