Position Overview

As the largest not-for-profit community-based adult detoxification, residential, and outpatient substance abuse treatment facility in Chicago, Haymarket Center is licensed by the state of Illinois and accredited by CARF. The role focuses on delivering nursing care to patients undergoing withdrawal from drugs and alcohol, ensuring compassionate and professional treatment.
Key Responsibilities
- Work under direct supervision using Policies and Procedures and nursing judgment.
- Conduct self in a professional manner and comply with unit and facility policies.
- Collaborate with the Registered Nurse to provide direct nursing care per physician orders, nursing care plan, or established protocols.
- Assess patients, make observations, and report pertinent information to the appropriate staff.
- Conduct initial health screenings and assessments of clients' medical needs.
- Chart vital signs, treatments performed, and medications administered while maintaining accurate records.
- Implement care plans and evaluate patient responses to treatment.
- Monitor clients self-administering medications and observe for reactions.
- Direct and supervise medical care provided by other staff when needed.
- Maintain knowledge of documentation requirements.
- Ensure confidentiality of patient information and uphold legal and licensure requirements.
- Provide education to patients, families, and caregivers.
- Work rotating shifts, including holidays and weekends as scheduled.
- Initiate emergency support measures (e.g., CPR, injury prevention).
- Participate in identifying staff educational needs.
- Serve as a preceptor for new staff as delegated.
- Maintain patient care supplies, unit equipment, and a safe program environment.
- Participate in developing unit objectives and contribute to the evaluation of care standards.
Required Qualifications
- Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse/RN in the State of Illinois.
- Must act with integrity and maintain professionalism while working with challenging populations experiencing acute withdrawal and untreated mental illness.
- Must work effectively with patients, staff, and support services.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
- Must communicate information concerning patients' medical and psycho-social conditions accurately.
- Must be in good general health and able to move throughout the workday.
- Must be capable of lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Must have adequate vision, hearing, or utilization of prosthetics to perform job tasks.
- Must work effectively with disabled, ill, elderly, and special needs populations.
- Must assist with patient evacuation in emergencies or drills.
- Must acknowledge the high risk of exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or other biohazards.
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks in a stressful environment while upholding the agency's reputation.
- Must be organized and capable of prioritizing responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications
- Prior SUDS/Mental Health experience preferred.
