AI Intern for Smart Manufacturing

Position Overview

Cognizant's Manufacturing Innovation Center located in Downtown Chicago's MxD offers an exciting opportunity for an AI Intern in its Smart Manufacturing solutions. Designed for students eager to dive into ground-breaking AI technologies, this role provides an exceptional learning experience and builds valuable skills in a dynamic field. As an intern, you will support the development and implementation of Industry 4.0 use cases using AI, ML, IoT, and analytics to enhance machine performance and quality by developing, configuring, designing, testing, and documenting innovative solutions that leverage AWS’ IoT cloud services.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop Use Cases: Work with cross-functional teams to develop and implement use cases for digital manufacturing.
• Get Hands-On Technology Experience: Work with MES, SCADA, PLC, machines/equipment, wireless sensors, cameras, and cobots/robots.
• Configure and Design Systems: Assist in designing solutions to meet client and market needs.
• Train AI Models: Create data, documents, images, and videos for model training.
• Conduct Testing & Documentation: Help test solutions thoroughly and document processes, results, and standard methodologies.
• Support Client Visits/Tours: Prepare and run demos, document topics, and help control AV and streaming while presenting solutions to clients and partners.
• Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest advancements in digital manufacturing technologies.

Required Qualifications

• Enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in STEM (Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Software Engineering, etc.).
• Ability to work part-time (20 hours/week) during the City Scholars program and full-time (40 hours/week) in the summer until mid-August 2026.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated teamwork and leadership capabilities.
• A strong curiosity about technology and digital modernization.
• Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and a dedication to client service excellence.
• Ability to work as part of a cross-cultural team with flexibility to support multiple time zones when necessary.
• Proven Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Benefits & Perks

• Compensation: $25.00 per hour, depending on experience and other qualifications.
