Position Overview
Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children has been providing compassionate care to the children, teenagers, and young adults of Central Florida for over 30 years. Located on the downtown Orlando campus, the hospital includes 156 licensed beds for specialized care and features the Bert Martin's Champions for Children Emergency Department & Trauma Center, which offers trauma care for children as the pediatric site of the Orlando Health ORMC Level One Trauma Center. The hospital is recognized for its state-of-the-art pediatric services, provided by a comprehensive staff that includes pediatric subspecialty physicians and a nursing team that has been Magnet recognized for nursing excellence and high-quality patient care. Additionally, the hospital has earned national recognition for 12 consecutive years as a Best Children’s Hospital by U.S. News & World Report and was included in the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals® list for 2021. The Therapeutic Gaming & Digital Technology Coordinator will coordinate the oversight and utilization of gaming and other innovative technology to promote therapeutic engagement with patients and families while ensuring that manufacturer specifications for equipment are met and maintained for safe and proper use.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversees the implementation, training, usage, and technical support for all gaming-related equipment that is being utilized to promote positive patient experiences.
- Utilizes industry knowledge to implement best practices on all applicable gaming equipment and acts as a resource for the patient’s health care team.
- Collaborates with the patient’s health care team to assess patient situations to match gaming/virtual experiences with interest, ability, and medical/psychosocial indications.
- Coordinates both individual and group experiences and assists with larger events where gaming will be part of the activities.
- Develops and maintains program statistics for monthly and annual tracking.
- Provides necessary training, guidance, and oversight for all volunteers assisting with gaming activity.
- Builds and fosters partnerships with organizations and individuals supporting the hospital through technology-based programming.
- Evaluates current programs and participation for continual monitoring and timely adjustments.
- Provides necessary maintenance and inventory for all gaming-related equipment, including updates, repairs, and routine inspections.
- Interfaces with the Seacrest Studio team by supporting studio initiatives and assisting with technical components.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in a technical area of study with a high level of interest and knowledge around gaming options.
- Associate’s degree in the bio-sciences (child development, family sciences, psychology, or related) with paid or volunteer experience in gaming-related work or service.
- High school diploma with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in Digital Media (or related role) may substitute for the Associate’s degree.
- Prior experience working with children and/or adolescents preferred.
- Gaming experience with PlayStation, Xbox, virtual, and computer streamed games.
