Staff Software Engineer - AI/ML

Position Overview

Egnyte is scouting for an experienced Staff Engineer – AI/ML based in MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA. In this role, you will drive innovation across AI initiatives – with a special emphasis on NLP solutions – by defining technical strategy, overseeing complex machine learning architectures, and integrating Gen AI solutions into our platform at scale. Key Responsibilities

• Help lead the technical strategy and execution for AI projects across the organization.
• Design, deploy, and manage the lifecycle of AI/ML models, including retraining and monitoring for continuous improvement.
• Design and drive Gen AI features on peta-byte scale datasets.
• Drive innovation in NLP and other ML solutions, ensuring alignment with Egnyte’s business goals.
• Architect, develop, and oversee scalable, production-ready AI systems.
• Provide technical mentorship to the AI/ML engineering team, fostering growth and collaboration.
• Conduct in-depth research and stay abreast of advancements in Gen AI and deep learning technologies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product, to determine optimal AI solutions based on business requirements.
• Review code, offer best practices, and ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions.
• Represent Egnyte’s technical excellence through publications, presentations, and industry event participation.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years experience managing large-scale datasets and distributed computing environments, with a preference for Google Cloud Platform expertise.
• Hands-on experience working within a Java ecosystem.
• Experience integrating and deploying AI/ML solutions into production within a SaaS environment.
• Demonstrated independent thinking with the ability to analyze unique challenges, overcome technical hurdles, and deliver impactful AI solutions.
• Hands-on experience with Generative AI techniques, including RAG pipelines, LLM fine-tuning, prompt engineering, and diffusion models.
• Strong knowledge of generative AI frameworks and tools, such as Hugging Face, LangChain, or OpenAI APIs.
• Experience developing and scaling Generative AI solutions for NLP, vision, or multimodal tasks.
• Advanced knowledge of modern AI frameworks, including PyTorch, TensorFlow/Keras, Hugging Face Transformers, and JAX/Flax.
• Expertise in Python, Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
• Excellent communication skills, with a strong emphasis on mentoring, knowledge sharing, and cross-team collaboration.
• Willingness to be in the office 3 days per week.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in additional programming languages such as Java, Scala, or Go.
• Familiarity with tools and frameworks like Kubeflow and OpenCV.
• Proficiency in building and deploying Generative AI applications using state-of-the-art models like GPT, BERT, or Stable Diffusion, and other deep learning techniques such as CNN, RNNs, and GANs.

• Compensation: Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across multiple U.S. geographic locations. The standard base pay range for this position is $210k - $250k annually, subject to location, job-related skills, and experience.
