Job Description
Position Overview
The Development Engineer is responsible for ensuring that Rolls-Royce’s military engine propulsion systems meet business, customer, and regulatory requirements. In this role, you will work alongside the Development Engineering Tech Lead to define product verification strategies, lead cross-functional teams through design, testing, and certification, and support customer engagements and program management. You will play an essential role in achieving robust, validated engineering solutions through collaboration, experimentation, and technical leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead conversations with external and internal customers to elicit and validate stakeholder requirements.
- Develop and implement the Systems Engineering and Verification strategy across the product lifecycle, ensuring alignment with project governance and master schedules.
- Plan, manage, and develop engine/sub-system certification and qualification plans, including product introduction reviews and requirements allocation.
- Create structured verification plans, product development plans, and substantiation evidence with clear clearance documentation.
- Translate experiment and test requirements into comprehensive test plans, including budgets, schedules, and instructions while articulating risks and opportunities.
- Coordinate integration activities to ensure proper instrumentation, controls, and data acquisition during on-site and off-site build and test activities.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 5+ years of experience in gas turbine engines, OR a Master's degree with 3+ years experience, OR a JD/PhD with relevant experience.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain security clearance (USA Citizenship required).
Preferred Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in technical project management or development engineering.
- Experience in gas turbine engine test, installation, verification, and performance analysis.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Proven ability in managing and interpreting requirements and developing test plans.
- Experience in cross-disciplinary and cross-functional team environments.
- Familiarity with product configuration control, quality systems, trouble reporting, and root cause analysis/corrective action.
- Experience with structured verification methodologies.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, responsibility, initiative, and a drive to complete tasks on schedule.
