Job Description

Position Overview

The goal of the Neurodiversity Hiring Program is to build an inclusive hiring approach that recognizes and embraces the strengths of neurodiverse candidates. This program values cognitive differences such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and dyscalculia.

As a Microsoft Data Center Technician (DCT), you will learn standard processes for preparing, installing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, replacing, and decommissioning IT equipment under the guidance of experienced colleagues. Working within Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team, you will contribute to delivering core infrastructure for vital services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Microsoft Azure. You will also be part of a culture that encourages personal and professional development.

In this role, you must be prepared for up to 25% business travel and the possibility of 12-hour shifts, including assignments during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform data center operations including installation, diagnostics, troubleshooting, equipment replacement, and decommissioning under guidance.
  • Adhere to safety protocols by completing required EHS training, using proper PPE, and participating in daily safety briefings.
  • Collaborate with technician teams to ensure smooth communication, effective handovers, and compliance with established processes and KPIs.
  • Monitor and escalate issues related to operational assurance, security, and compliance per established procedures.
  • Execute basic diagnostics, troubleshooting, start-up/shutdown procedures, and decommissioning tasks in accordance with standard processes.
  • Meet physical and environmental job requirements, including occasional heavy lifting, extended standing, and work in high ambient noise levels.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components OR equivalent experience.
  • Eligibility to participate in the Neurodiversity Hiring Program.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ year of experience supporting IT equipment or related technology OR equivalent experience.
  • Applicable certifications such as CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+) and Basic Structure Cabling (BSC).

Benefits & Perks

  • Compensation: Data Center Technicians ATR-B typically earn USD $23.17 - $36.49 per hour (with regional ranges of USD $31.20 - $40.63 per hour in certain locations).
  • Compensation: Data Center Technicians ATR-C typically earn USD $26.92 - $47.60 per hour (with regional ranges of USD $37.98 - $52.79 per hour in select areas).
