Position Overview
GFT is seeking experienced Substation Engineers (Electrical Engineers) to join our expanding Power Group in St. Louis, MO; Roanoke, VA; Charlotte, NC; Pittsburgh, PA; Phoenix, AZ; Chicago, IL; or Marlton, NJ. Joining the power team means engaging in cutting-edge projects in power transmission, distribution, and renewable energy, while enhancing system reliability, sustainability, and efficiency to shape a resilient future.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop substation layout drawings including plan views, elevations, yard layouts, grounding details, raceway details, control building layouts, cable lists, and material lists for new and existing substations.
- Create substation one-lines, three-lines, Aux AC and DC Power Systems, DC Schematics, SCADA and Communications designs, relay panel layouts, equipment wiring, and cable schedules.
- Prepare calculations and comprehensive reports to present to clients.
- Develop equipment specifications for substation components and construction.
- Collaborate internally to pursue regional and national power substation projects to enhance Gannett Fleming’s presence in the power delivery market.
- Develop and nurture client relationships and engage with multiple disciplines across offices.
- Actively participate in the preparation of proposals, bids, reports, and presentations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer License or progress toward licensure.
- 3+ years of progressive experience in design, engineering, and project management within the power and utility industry.
- Proficiency with project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project or similar).
- Experience in high voltage substation and distribution project design.
- Demonstrated ability to create quality technical solutions for major power delivery projects.
- Commitment to strong business performance, continuous improvement, and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Degree strongly preferred.
- Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Inventor.

Compensation: Salary range is $77,000 - $155,000; salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
