Job Description

Position Overview

Join UChicago Medicine as a PRN Special Procedures Nurse (SPN) supporting the Infusion Therapy Clinic in Hyde Park. Under the direction of an Attending Physician or licensed independent practitioner, you will deliver technically complex and high‐risk nursing care—including sedation, intravenous infusions, lumbar puncture, and cardiac catheterization—while ensuring patient safety and maintaining a high standard of care.

  • Handle confidential information in compliance with Federal HIPAA legislation.
  • Perform clinical and research procedures, ensuring proper sedation protocols and high quality care.
  • Provide compassionate patient care and engage a multidisciplinary team for comprehensive support.
  • Accurately complete patient assessments, documentation, and timely interventions when needed.
  • Maintain nursing equipment, work areas, and proper inventory control of supplies.
  • Interface professionally with patients, families, visitors, and staff while employing AIDET principles.
  • Complete all required Quality Assurance testing and adjust staffing as needed for safe patient transport and care.
  • Apply specialized nursing knowledge to assess, treat, and manage patient conditions effectively.
  • Maintain hospital-required competencies and provide continuity of care across patient populations.
  • Contribute suggestions for program improvements and participate in the development of new and existing care practices.
  • Anticipate patient care needs by understanding safety principles and serving as a resource to peers.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (BSN degree or higher preferred). Associate Degree Nurses must enroll in a BSN program within 6-9 months of hire with progress toward completion within 30 months, with 100% tuition reimbursement.
  • Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the State of Illinois.
  • Current CPR, ACLS, and/or PALS Certifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy card.
  • Chemotherapy experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a research environment.
