Position Overview

An Exceptional Opportunity to Lead in the Field of Geotechnical Engineering. A highly respected, multi‐disciplined engineering firm is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join its growing Geotechnical Division in the Northern Virginia region. This is an exciting opportunity for a licensed professional to take the lead on complex projects and collaborate across departments including environmental consulting, geostructural design, construction materials testing, and special inspections. This role offers an ideal blend of technical depth, field engagement, and client-facing leadership — perfect for a seasoned engineer looking to make a real impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Special Inspection Engineer of Record for major public and private sector projects across Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, Loudoun, Falls Church, and Prince William counties.
  • Provide expert geotechnical consultation and support to Construction Materials Testing (CMT) teams and project managers.
  • Conduct site visits, attend project meetings, and ensure timely, high-quality reporting and documentation.
  • Prepare proposals, cost estimates, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and ensure consistent delivery of high standards in service and safety.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Promote and enforce safety policies and practices both in the office and on-site.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering: (M.S. preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience: in geotechnical engineering or construction materials testing.
  • Familiarity: with Northern Virginia’s special inspection programs and local permitting requirements.
  • Proficiency: in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and technical writing skills.
  • Valid driver’s license: and ability to travel locally and regionally as required.
  • Physically able: to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varied field conditions.
