Position Overview

ERM is seeking a self-starting, dynamic Consulting Associate, Environmental Scientist/Assistant Wetland Delineator (Entry Level) to join our Impact Assessment team. Based in New Orleans, LA—with significant domestic travel and fieldwork (up to 75%)—this role offers an excellent opportunity for a junior professional to advance their career with a global sustainability leader. You will provide high-quality analytical support in a junior scientist capacity while collaborating closely with technical experts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide creative and fit-for-purpose technical analyses while collaborating with subject-matter experts from diverse fields.
  • Conduct fieldwork safely in line with ERM and client safety expectations.
  • Delineate wetlands per the 1987 Corps of Engineers Wetlands Delineation Manual and applicable Regional Supplements.
  • Document OHWM and geophysical characteristics of waterbodies and conduct habitat assessments.
  • Perform data entry, data review, and utilize GPS technologies, including map interpretation.
  • Compile survey reports and assist with permit applications as required.
  • Provide technical consulting support to help grow ERM's service offerings and oversee environmental constraint desktop processes and permitting.
  • Interact directly with clients and their SMEs regarding biology and environmental science matters.
  • Ensure work assignments adhere to quality, budget, and schedule expectations, in accordance with ERM's standards.

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS or Master’s degree in a natural science discipline, or an equivalent of 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Entry level (0+ years experience required).
  • Knowledge or experience with wetland delineation using the 1987 Corps of Engineers Wetlands Delineation Manual and Regional Supplements, with appropriate training or coursework.
  • Familiarity with Army Corps of Engineers Regional Supplements for the Arid West and Great Plains.
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain over extended periods.
  • Working knowledge of sub-meter accuracy GPS technologies and map interpretation tools (e.g., NWI, USGS, aerial photography).
  • Strong commitment to safety by adhering to established Health & Safety protocols.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to record detailed technical data and reports.
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and independent working skills with a service-oriented mentality.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; local candidates preferred.
