The Oregon Zoo is seeking a Capital Projects Design and Construction Manager to lead the design and construction management of zoo capital projects funded by the 2024 General Obligation Bond. In this dynamic role, you will work independently while reporting to the Director of Campus Planning and Development and oversee projects including public spaces, animal care facilities, aquatic and terrestrial animal habitats, life support systems, integration with existing control systems, and ADA improvements.

Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support two Construction Project Manager II and one Construction Project Manager I to ensure effective resource management and timely project execution.
- Administer and manage bond capital projects, overseeing planning, design, implementation, and closeout phases.
- Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and performance standards to assure efficient project management.
- Coordinate with consultants, zoo staff, and stakeholders to establish and manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
- Manage procurement and construction contracts, including bid reviews, contract awards, and handling changes due to scope adjustments or unforeseen conditions.
- Prepare and deliver regular updates on project budget, schedule, and scope, including reports and meeting minutes.
- Facilitate design and construction meetings with staff, unions, and contractors to drive collaboration and decision-making.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and obtain necessary environmental, land use, and building permits.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience leading or supervising teams.
- A minimum of 2 years of project management experience in design and construction (or equivalent combination of education, professional, volunteer, and lived experience).
- A current and valid driver's license issued in your current state of residence with the ability to obtain an Oregon driver's license at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with live animal habitat construction, life support systems, and animal care facilities.
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Seven or more years of experience in design and construction supervision or project management of high-budget/high-risk projects.
- Experience managing in a union environment and/or working within a government organization.
- Sustainable building certification.

- Compensation: Salary range from Step 1 $127,534.84 to Step 6 $162,795.64, with appointments typically made between Step 1 and Step 4 ($147,661.15) based on internal equity reviews.
