Our client is seeking a highly experienced Lead Geotechnical Engineer to join their pioneering team. This role is fully remote, offering an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned professional to lead critical projects from their home office. You will be responsible for overseeing the geotechnical aspects of major mining operations, including site investigations, foundation design, slope stability analysis, and risk assessment. The ideal candidate holds a Master's or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, possesses extensive experience in the mining sector, and demonstrates strong leadership and project management capabilities. You will be instrumental in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our mining sites through expert geotechnical analysis and design.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage geotechnical investigations and analyses for mining projects.
- Develop geotechnical designs for foundations, slopes, excavations, and other structures.
- Conduct detailed analyses of soil and rock mechanics, including stability and settlement.
- Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, specifications, and recommendations.
- Oversee field investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.
- Review and interpret geological and geotechnical data.
- Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and geologists.
- Collaborate with project managers, mining engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate geotechnical considerations into overall project planning.
- Perform risk assessments related to geotechnical hazards and develop mitigation strategies.
- Manage project budgets and timelines for geotechnical scopes of work.
- Stay current with advancements in geotechnical engineering technologies and methodologies.
- Represent the company in technical discussions with clients, regulators, and other parties.
Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, with significant experience in the mining industry.
- Proven experience in leading complex geotechnical projects from conception to completion.
- Expertise in numerical modeling software for geotechnical analysis (e.g., FLAC, PLAXIS).
- Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering.
- Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and lead a remote team effectively.
- Experience with environmental regulations and permitting related to mining projects is a plus.
- Strong understanding of risk management principles in engineering.
