Position Overview

Osborn Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer with 4–7 years of experience for our Cleveland office. This role reports to the Manager of Mechanical Engineering and requires strong working knowledge of Revit and mechanical design in a consulting engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced heating and cooling load calculations with Trace or HAP.
  • Develop sections and elevations of complex ductwork and piping areas.
  • Develop equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases.
  • Edit specifications to reflect project requirements.
  • Develop air (constant and variable) and water flows using fan and pump curves to properly select equipment for application.
  • Use the psychrometric chart properly for any HVAC system.
  • Meet with vendors to determine specification requirements for applications.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines for all HVAC details.
  • Modify sequences of operations for AHU’s, CHW, and HW systems.
  • Prepare design deliverables for SD, DD, and CD level documents.
  • Meet with contractors during the bid phase to review design details.
  • Perform field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects.
  • Administer project construction including responses to RFIs and rigorous review of submittals.
  • Attend meetings with clients, authorities, and other professionals as required.
  • Plan and manage the design process within available work plan hours.

Required Qualifications

  • 4–7 years of experience in Mechanical Design within Consulting Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design and load calculation software such as Revit, IES VE, HAP, and TRACE.
  • Familiarity with local and national building codes and design practices.
  • Understanding of standard construction practices and ability to collaborate with contractors to address construction issues.
  • Experience designing projects in Healthcare, Sports, Commercial, Public Sector, Industrial, Education, and/or Institutional environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • EI or PE License preferred.
