Soils Technician (Experienced and Entry Level)

Position Overview

GeoTek, a full-service consulting engineering firm established in 1997, is seeking field technicians for our Las Vegas office. We specialize in geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, special inspections, and environmental consulting. In this role, you will perform routine field testing, sample collection, equipment manipulation, and preparation of daily reports—all while operating in a safety-sensitive environment. Candidates with certifications such as Nuke Gauge, NAQTC, ICC Soils or a Geology/Earth Science degree are encouraged to apply. Training is provided for suitable applicants, and you must have or be able to obtain a truck, van, or SUV.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate in a safety-sensitive environment on construction sites with heavy machinery and limited supervision.
• Obtain and maintain various field certifications as required by jurisdictional guidelines.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and dispatch to receive daily work assignments.
• Conduct field tests, inspections, and sample collections using equipment such as nuclear gauges, shovels, and sledgehammers.
• Perform physical testing, examinations, interpretations, and evaluations on residential and commercial projects.
• Navigate uneven terrain and work in challenging construction site conditions.
• Prepare and submit daily data reports detailing testing and inspection activities.
• Train new personnel and review procedures as needed.
• Maintain positive relationships with clients, contractors, and suppliers.
• Ensure proper care and maintenance of company equipment.
• Commute to job sites, with an expected daily drive time of 1-2 hours.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma/GED or an equivalent qualification, including a Geology/Earth Science degree.
• Experience Required: 1+ years’ experience in grading or a related field is preferred.
• Requirements: Valid/current state driver's license and the ability to use or acquire a truck, van, or SUV for fieldwork.

Preferred Qualifications

• Qualifications: Certifications such as Nuke Gauge, NAQTC, ICC Soils, or other relevant field certifications are a plus.
