Position Overview

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Entry Level Civil Engineer (Renewables) to be involved in our Power & Energy projects within our Site Development Civil Team – Renewable Energy. Positions are available in Cincinnati, OH as well as in Cleveland, OH, Columbus, OH, Indianapolis, IN, Houston, TX, Dallas, TX, Austin, TX, and Las Vegas, NV offices. Key Responsibilities

  • Support renewable energy site development projects with an emphasis on Solar, Wind, and BESS facilities alongside behind the meter generation for commercial and industrial clients.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, hydrologic analysis, geotechnical data, and other sources for project development, design, and construction.
  • Perform professional civil engineering work by researching and inspecting proposed and existing site conditions, resources, buildings, infrastructure, and transportation channels for compliance with rules, standards, and permits.
  • Assist in developing site and permitting plans for projects within the energy sector including electrical transmission, solar, and onshore wind.
  • Support the development of civil designs including erosion and sediment control, drainage/stormwater, and utility layouts, as well as preparation of permit application documents, engineering design plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct field visits to local sites with potential for occasional overnight travel and coordinate with clients and governmental agencies to secure necessary permits or approvals.
  • Contribute to the scoping and guidance of medium-sized projects and provide mentorship to entry-level engineers.
  • Interact professionally with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients, while staying current with the latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct in accordance with WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • 1+ years of relevant post-education experience in renewable energy engineering with prior civil design exposure.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD with a working knowledge of site grading, stormwater, and erosion and sedimentation controls.
  • Understanding of stormwater permitting (NPDES) with multi-state knowledge viewed as a plus.
  • Familiarity with civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Ability to perform technical computations, interpret plans and specifications, and compare findings to applicable regulations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and task management skills.
  • Demonstrated capability for self-leadership, attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
  • Capacity to direct field personnel to complete tasks safely and efficiently, with a proven track record in workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Willingness to travel on occasion and perform fieldwork in rugged terrain if required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Project management experience on small to mid-level projects, including tracking hours and expenses.
  • Previous involvement in site development renewable energy projects with client interfacing responsibilities.
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (Texas, Ohio, Illinois preferred) or having an NCEES record is a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D Software Suite and familiarity with grading and earthwork concepts.
  • Relevant task management experience.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $83,200 - $95,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range in good faith based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, in addition to internal equity and geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than this posted range and may offer additional benefits and other forms of compensation based on circumstances.
