Job Description

Position Overview

Environment California is seeking a Clean Water Advocate to run campaigns that build public support for solutions protecting our waterways and ensuring safe drinking water in California.

Salary: $40,500.00/yr - $46,000.00/yr
Location: Oakland, Los Angeles or Sacramento, CA

Key Responsibilities

  • Build powerful coalitions: Reach out to a broad range of organizations and affected constituency groups across the political spectrum to demonstrate support for clean water.
  • Organize events: Plan webinars, community events, and public meetings while recruiting organizations and members of the public to participate.
  • Earn traditional media and social media attention: Organize media events, write opinion pieces, and build a following on social media for the campaign.
  • Advocate: Present a compelling case for strong action on clean water to decision-makers through lobbying, testifying at hearings, and producing persuasive written materials.
  • Fundraise: Write grant proposals, build relationships with foundation staff, and raise money from individual donors to secure more resources for campaigns.
  • Grow our team: Identify and recruit strong candidates to join the staff and manage interns to maximize campaign impact.

Required Qualifications

  • A campaign advocate, campaign staffer, or grassroots organizer with at least 3 years of experience in team building and/or coalition building.
  • An effective communicator with excellent writing and public speaking skills; experience with traditional media or digital communications is a plus.
  • Creative and effective in solving complex problems; a strategic thinker who can take advantage of new opportunities.
  • A people person and good listener with a track record of successful access-building, willing to work with those holding differing perspectives.
  • Well-organized and capable of managing multiple legislative and administrative proposals concurrently.
  • A demonstrated commitment to environmental and public interest issues as well as citizen-based social change.
  • Proven ability to recruit, train, and develop staff, raise funds, and build relationships with a diverse range of environmental and political stakeholders.
