Job Description
Position Overview
WSP is seeking a Mid-level Civil/Structure Engineer for our Ann Arbor, Michigan and Columbus, Ohio offices. This opportunity allows our engineers to be involved in projects with our WSP Power Delivery Team, contributing to a growing organization that meets clients’ objectives and solves their challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review engineering deliverables in support of overhead transmission line projects including PLS-CADD model, PLS-POLE models, project design criteria, steel pole loading calculations and drawings, engineering drawings and specifications, foundation designs and drawings, and bill of materials.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to others and perform detailed engineering reviews of work submitted by peers.
- Coordinate regularly with the Project Engineer to ensure project scope, budget, and quality expectations are met.
- Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of field investigation data to develop action plans for low to mid-level risk mitigation activities.
- Work collaboratively with engineers and planners on projects involving Federal, State, regional, and local infrastructure authorities.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 3 to 5 years of post-education experience in the engineering discipline with prior civil design experience.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Solid knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and their application to permitting and project work-related issues.
- Experience in designing overhead High Voltage and Extra High Voltage transmission lines including route selection, conductor, OHGW and OPGW selection, line and structure spotting, structure design and analysis, foundation design and analysis, procurement specification development, and construction bid package preparation.
- Proficiency with PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE.
- Foundation design experience using industry software (e.g., RISA, L-PILE, FAD).
- Capable interpersonal and communication skills for effectively interacting with both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Strong self-leadership, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to learn new techniques, multitask, work independently, and comply with company policies.
- Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software tools, and predictive models.
- Experience with discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, ArcGIS).
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills to derive effective, economical, and logical solutions.
- Proven track record in upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Ability to work extended hours and travel occasionally as project requirements dictate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Engineering.
- Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
- Experience in distribution/underbuild design.
- Managerial and leadership skills.
- Participation in technical societies (IEEE, CIGRE, ASCE, etc.).
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) is preferred.
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
