Job Description
Position Overview
The College of Engineering is inviting qualified applicants to apply for the position of Research Assistant (Research Technician I) in the lab of Dr. Shang Song within the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The Song lab, funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH), private foundations including the American Heart Association, and other organizations, specializes in neuroengineering, organs-on-chips technology, and animal models. The successful candidate will work closely with post-doctoral fellows and graduate students on various exciting translational research projects. Compensation: $16.50 - $18.75 (hourly rate).
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision from a senior researcher, prepare animal model experiments including assessing animal behavior, performing surgeries, tissue harvest, pathology, and molecular analysis.
- Participate and observe in cell experiments including cell culture, PCR, western blot, transfection, and transduction.
- Assist senior researchers with data analysis after collecting experimental data, including recording data, compiling notes, and using Prism and MS Excel.
- Assist the team with general lab maintenance such as cleaning, record keeping, and ordering/receiving lab supplies as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of laboratory research.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to analyze research results.
- Ability to report results to the PI and during laboratory meetings.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or above in biomedical-related disciplines.
- One year of laboratory research or animal experience in a related field.
- Experience in using Prism and MS Excel.
