Job Description

Position Overview

MortgageDepot (NMLS #1133788), a multistate mortgage broker and one of Inc’s 5,000 fastest growing companies, is seeking an experienced Mortgage Loan Originator to join its expanding team in the Queens location. Using a strategic digital approach to the traditional mortgage industry, MortgageDepot provides a powerful lead generation platform to help you grow your business. The ideal candidate will have an active NMLS license and at least 1-2 years of experience as a mortgage loan officer or in a similar role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leverage MortgageDepot’s digital platform and social media tools to engage with prospective leads.
  • Build and maintain an active book of business through provided leads and self-sourcing methods.
  • Inform customers about a vast array of loan products, procedures, prevailing rates, policies, and underwriting requirements available through our lending partners.
  • Gather and analyze applicants’ financial data to determine loan feasibility and match clients with appropriate loan programs.
  • Compile loan disclosures, facilitate fee itemizations and negotiate credit terms with borrowers.
  • Coordinate with loan processors, underwriters, lenders, and realtors to ensure successful loan transactions.
  • Stay informed on current rules, regulations, and guidelines from FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, and other agencies.
  • Supervise and mentor junior Mortgage Loan Originators as they transition to licensed MLOs.
  • Research market rates and trends to better consult clients.
  • Attend in-person and virtual meetings with potential clients and real estate brokers.

Required Qualifications

  • Active NMLS state license
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a mortgage loan officer or in a similar role
  • High school diploma or equivalent; familiarity with mortgage loan computer software (e.g., Calyx Point) is required
  • Solid understanding of loan programs (FHA, FHMLC, FNMA, VA, and commercial loans)
  • Excellent customer service, sales, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize projects, and work independently with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (desired)
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus
