Key Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant provides general front and back office support and assists with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a Provider. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations, escorts patients to exam rooms, obtains brief histories, documents chief complaints, takes vital signs (including weight and temperature), and assists with exams and special procedures.
  • Travels to off-site locations to perform diagnostic testing and assist with physical exam components, including TB testing, injections, and phlebotomy.
  • May administer and record injections and TB testing under the supervision and orders of a physician.
  • Performs venipuncture, obtains specimens, conducts CLIA waived lab tests, and completes office procedures such as PFT, UDS, EBT, EKG, and fit testing as directed.
  • Answers telephone calls from patients and pharmacies, relays information to providers, and manages phone messages promptly.
  • Handles front office duties including reception, scheduling, chart maintenance, and insurance forms.
  • Coordinates with insurance companies for authorizations, referrals, and communicates with case management as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant (MA) training program
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Completion of an approved training program or equivalent, as defined by the Arizona Administrative Code, or completion of a United States Armed Forces medical services training program
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card – Have a current card or be eligible to obtain one within seven (7) working days after employment (for Pediatric Behavioral Health Sites ONLY)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6 months experience as a Medical Assistant
  • Medical Assistant Certification (e.g., CMA, CCMA, RMA) – HonorHealth will reimburse the cost of the successful completion of the certification exam. Failure to obtain certification within the assigned period will result in termination.
