Position Overview

As an Entry Level Controls Engineer at Design Group, you will join one of our 45 US offices and work alongside over 1500 professionals. You will be part of a dynamic team of industry experts and consultants committed to delivering high-quality control system integration solutions for leading companies. This role offers a unique opportunity to grow your technical abilities, work on capital projects, and gain hands-on experience in designing and troubleshooting electrical control systems—all within a supportive, innovative, and growth-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support capital projects and implement solutions for our clients individually and in teams.
  • Apply programming methods, electrical design, and engineering problem-solving skills to modern manufacturing practices.
  • Design, program, and troubleshoot packaging machinery and line control systems.
  • Travel to top client sites nationwide to assist in designing manufacturing processes, managing projects, and developing facilities.
  • Develop user applications to monitor and control production processes and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Design control systems that provide instantaneous feedback on the production life cycle.
  • Design electrical control panels and develop industrial controller (PLC) programs along with human machine interfaces (HMIs).
  • Support Barry-Wehmiller Design Group project teams to strengthen client relationships.
  • Conduct yourself with integrity in pursuit of both individual and business goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple project responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective interactions with management, clients, and vendors.
  • A willingness to travel (up to 90% travel during the first 2 years) for installations, start-ups, trainings, and industry events.
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or an equivalent technical degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with electrical engineering and PLC automation programming applications.
