Our client, a highly respected civil engineering and design firm, is seeking a talented Senior Structural Engineer with specialized expertise in bridge design. This critical role is integral to delivering innovative and safe infrastructure projects for the region. The position is based in our bustling downtown office in Portland, Oregon, US, and requires consistent on-site presence to facilitate collaboration with project teams and clients. You will be responsible for the structural analysis and design of various bridge types, including highway bridges, pedestrian bridges, and overpasses. Your expertise will guide the entire design process, from conceptualization through construction administration. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile projects and contribute significantly to the built environment.
Your Responsibilities
- Perform structural analysis and design of bridge structures using advanced engineering software (e.g., CSiBridge, LUSAS, MIDAS Civil).
- Develop detailed design calculations, drawings, and specifications for bridges in accordance with AASHTO LRFD and state DOT requirements.
- Conduct site investigations and feasibility studies for proposed bridge projects.
- Review shop drawings and respond to contractor Requests for Information (RFIs) during the construction phase.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, including transportation, geotechnical, and environmental engineers.
- Mentor and guide junior structural engineers and designers, providing technical oversight.
- Ensure designs meet all relevant codes, standards, and project requirements.
- Prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations for clients and regulatory agencies.
- Participate in project meetings and client presentations.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in bridge engineering technology and design practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree: in Civil Engineering; Master's degree with a structural emphasis preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license: in Oregon or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Minimum of 7 years: of progressive experience in structural engineering, with a significant focus on bridge design.
- Proven experience: with various bridge types (e.g., concrete, steel, timber, movable bridges).
- Proficiency: in structural analysis software and CAD drafting tools.
- Thorough understanding: of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, seismic design principles, and relevant codes.
- Excellent: analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication: teamwork, and leadership abilities.
- Experience: with finite element analysis (FEA) for complex structures.
- Ability: to manage multiple project tasks and deadlines effectively.
