Role summary

The Engineer I supports the Engineering & Technical Services team with planning, designing, analyzing, and collecting data for civil projects under the oversight of senior engineers. This position is designed to build essential technical skills, use engineering principles to solve actual problems, and support project completion through calculations, drafting, fieldwork, and documentation.

Key Responsibilities & Outcomes

  1. Engineering & Technical Support

Outcome:
Engineering services are delivered accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with professional standards.

  • Provide engineering design support across projects supporting all business units.
  • Assist the land surveying team by preparing plats and legal descriptions under the guidance of the professional land surveyor.
  • Ensure adherence to civil site development, design best practices and engineering standards.
  1. Environmental & Regulatory Compliance

Outcome:
All projects meet applicable federal, state, and local environmental and permitting requirements.

  • Support engineering designs to reduce environmental impacts where feasible.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of permit applications.
  • Support environmental project management and compliance initiatives.

Outcome:
Participate in multi-disciplinary design teams to develop economically feasible and high value creation projects.

  • Support design tasks by contributing calculations, sketches, and detailed designs.
  • Collaborate with construction/design teams by performing field visits, collecting site data, and documenting observations.
  • Demonstrates increased technical competence through collaboration and mentoring interactions with senior staff.
  1. Operational Excellence

Maintain high standards in engineering, quality, safety, continuous improvement, learning, and culture.

  • Participate and contribute to safety meetings and onsite safety briefs.
  • Grow engineering skills with ongoing education and guidance from experienced staff.
  • Demonstrates a continuous improvement mindset by identifying inefficiencies, proposing enhancements, and contributing to incremental process, quality, or workflow improvements.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Field: Civil/Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE): attainable in 4 years.
  • Experience/Knowledge: 0-2 years’ experience.
  • Foundational understanding of engineering design principles.
  • Skills: Working knowledge of AutoCAD software applications.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in both written and verbal communication.
  • Physical ability to work outside as needed.

Create/Execute/Stakeholder-Customers

  • Create: Engineering design documents, construction plans, and design reports.
  • Execute: Engineering data collection, permitting, and construction administration.

Day in the Life

Each day involves reviewing and updating design documents, managing schedules, communicating with the team and stakeholders, and solving project challenges to keep construction projects on track.
