This critical role requires deep expertise in the design, development, and analysis of complex mechanical systems and components. You will be responsible for leading challenging design projects from concept through production, ensuring technical excellence, adherence to stringent specifications, and innovation. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in CAD/CAE, stress analysis, thermal management, and materials science, with a proven history of delivering high-reliability designs in demanding environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design of complex systems and components, from initial concept generation through detailed design, analysis, prototyping, and production support.
- Utilize advanced CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo) for 3D modeling, assembly creation, and detailed drawing generation.
- Perform in-depth mechanical analysis, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for stress, strain, vibration, and thermal analysis using industry-standard tools (e.g., ANSYS, ABAQUS).
- Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes based on performance requirements, environmental conditions, and cost constraints.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, systems engineers, manufacturing engineers, and quality assurance personnel.
- Develop and manage technical specifications, design documentation, and verification/validation plans.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior mechanical engineers.
- Conduct design reviews, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
- Support prototype fabrication, testing, and integration activities.
- Troubleshoot design-related issues that arise during manufacturing or field deployment.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, design methodologies, and industry best practices in mechanical engineering.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., MIL-STD, ASME) and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Degree: Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. Ph.D. is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mechanical design engineering, with a significant focus on complex systems.
- Expertise: Proven expertise in designing and analyzing mechanical components and assemblies for high-performance applications (aerospace, defense, medical devices, etc.).
- Proficiency: Extensive proficiency with advanced 3D CAD modeling software and PDM/PLM systems.
- FEA Skills: Strong experience with FEA and other simulation tools for structural, thermal, and vibration analysis.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of material science, manufacturing processes (machining, casting, injection molding, etc.), and design for manufacturability (DFM).
- Skills: Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Management: Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects effectively.
- Scripting: Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for design automation is desirable.
- Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship or Green Card holder required for potential security clearance access.
