Position Overview
Old Dominion University's Division of University Communications is seeking to hire two Directors of Marketing and Communications to support Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University. One position will support the EVMS School of Health Professions and the other Eastern Virginia Medical School. Reporting to the Executive Director for Marketing and Communications with a dotted line to the respective school/college dean, the role is responsible for leading the development, execution, and evaluation of the annual integrated marketing communications plan. This plan covers marketing, internal communications, public relations, and special events aimed at diverse audiences including prospective and current students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and community members. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the creation, execution, and assessment of the integrated marketing communications plan for the designated academic unit.
- Oversee internal and external communications including digital content, news stories, social media, and print publications.
- Manage marketing campaigns, ensuring messages reach target audiences effectively while operating within budget.
- Collaborate with school/college leadership and external stakeholders to enhance brand messaging.
- Adjust marketing and communications strategies based on timely evaluations and feedback.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in communications, marketing, or a related field OR a BA/BS degree with equivalent work experience.
- Demonstrated creativity, critical thinking, and talent in branding, digital marketing, message development, and strategic marketing.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to set short- and long-range goals and deliver measurable outcomes.
- Proven interpersonal skills with extensive experience in collaborative environments.
- Experience coordinating communications across a variety of marketing channels.
- Substantial background as a communications or marketing professional.
- Experience developing and executing marketing campaigns for higher education institutions.
- Demonstrated ability in executing integrated communication efforts for complex organizations.
- Familiarity with planning and managing comprehensive strategies across print, digital, and video media.
- Prior experience in higher education and healthcare marketing and communications.
Preferred Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of communications and marketing trends in higher education.
- Strong understanding of healthcare marketing and communications issues and trends.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including editing and proofreading.
- Experience in developing, executing, and measuring integrated marketing communications plans.
