Full Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Data Scientist to join our team working with the Missile Defense Agency. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, and optimization, data preparation for these methods, and deployment of solutions in a Software as a Service platform. They will be responsible for developing and implementing advanced analytics and AI/ML pipelines to address complex defense challenges and contribute to the advancement of our products and services. This role requires a combination of strong theoretical understanding, practical implementation skills, and a passion for innovation.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and frame customer challenges.
- Design, develop, and implement analytics solutions using AI/ML, optimization, and data analytics platforms (e.g., Palantir Foundry or equivalent SaaS platforms).
- Perform data engineering tasks to support solution lifecycle, ensuring compliance with current data governance policies.
- Apply MLOps and Agile development methodologies to manage deployment, monitoring, and iterative enhancement of analytics solutions.
- Develop and apply model evaluation metrics; monitor model performance for continuous improvement.
- Create and maintain solution documentation to meet customer requirements.
- Stay abreast of advancements in AI/ML, data mining, and analytics, and implement new technologies and techniques where applicable.
- Contribute to the development of internal tools and libraries to boost team efficiency.
- Mentor junior team members, participate in code reviews, and share expertise to maintain a high-quality codebase.
Required Qualifications
- US Citizenship: and an active secret level security clearance
- Master's degree or PhD: in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Data Science, or a related field.
- 3-7 years of experience: in developing and implementing AI/ML solutions in a professional setting, including integration with SaaS platforms such as Palantir Foundry.
- Proficient in programming languages: (e.g., Python, Typescript2, JavaScript) and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn) for AI/ML and data science.
- Hands-on experience: with data engineering tasks supporting solution development, deployment, and lifecycle management. Including working with structured and unstructured data, time series data, associated query languages, and APIs, and integration with Office 365.
- Strong foundation in analytics: statistics, mathematical modeling, optimization, and AI/ML algorithms, with expertise in applying these to large datasets.
- Exceptional analytical skills: with sufficient breadth to select and apply appropriate methodologies for complex challenges.
- Proficiency in data visualization: tools and techniques to effectively communicate insights.
- Collaboration and Communication: Strong teamwork and communication skills to work effectively in cross-functional environments.
Desired qualifications
- Top Secret security clearance
- Familiarity with DoD data systems, data types, and the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) mission, including warfighting concepts such as command and control, situational awareness, machine autonomy, munitions guidance, targeting, image recognition, and electronic warfare.
- Experience developing analytics solutions to support decision-making processes.
- Hands-on experience implementing LLM-based applications in Palantir Foundry and deploying models to production using MLOps methodologies.
- Proficient with multiple SaaS analytics platforms (e.g., PowerBI, QlikSense, Tableau, Alteryx) and big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop).
- Skilled in converting legacy code (e.g., FORTRAN) and engineering scripting languages (e.g., MATLAB) for use in modern SaaS platforms.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Certified data management professional (CDMP) credentials; contributions to open-source AI/ML projects; publications in peer-reviewed conferences or journals.
- Proven ability through a portfolio showcasing analytics work with high-impact solutions to complex challenges.
- Familiarity with digital engineering concepts and tools.
- Understanding of long-range planning, budgeting, acquisition, project management, policy, task management, and compliance workflows.
