Job Description

Position Overview

Thermo Systems is a global, full-service control systems integrator delivering world-class automation solutions across District Energy, Life Sciences, and Mission Critical markets. Based in Montgomery, AL (onsite with up to 10% travel), this role offers a unique opportunity for a motivated engineer to lead complex automation and controls projects from design through commissioning. You will take technical ownership, mentor junior engineers, and work in a collaborative, high-trust environment—The Thermo Way.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute control system design, programming, and commissioning (PLC/HMI/SCADA).
  • Perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and oversee field start-up and integration.
  • Interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and system drawings to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure compliance with Thermo’s Quality Management System (QMS) and project specifications.
  • Collaborate with customers and subcontractors to manage scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Provide technical direction to junior engineers while serving as the main point of contact for clients.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate project risks and maintain comprehensive documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering (or related technical field).
  • 4+ years in control systems engineering with at least 2 years in a lead role.
  • Proficiency in PLC/HMI/SCADA development (Rockwell, Siemens, or equivalent platforms).
  • Strong understanding of instrumentation, control networks, and IT/OT integration.
  • Field commissioning and troubleshooting proficiency.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and proactive problem-solving skills.
