Job Description
Position Overview
The University of South Alabama’s Department of Marketing and Communications is seeking an Assistant Director, Marketing & Communications. This role, located in Mobile, AL, reports to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications and supports the College of Education and Professional Studies as well as the College of Arts and Sciences by planning and executing innovative marketing campaigns that enhance the reputation and engagement of the colleges. The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing or a related field and at least five years of relevant experience. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Employment Type: Full Time, Regular.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategies and tactics that enhance communications and create engagement among target audiences.
- Collaborate with the Vice President and college deans to plan, implement, and measure the impact of comprehensive marketing strategies that promote the mission, programs, and events of the colleges.
- Produce, edit, and distribute news, features, print and electronic marketing materials, and social media content in alignment with broader marketing objectives.
- Act as the primary liaison between the assigned colleges and USA’s Office of Marketing and Communications, ensuring adherence to University brand standards.
- Partner with deans, faculty, and staff to plan recruitment campaigns highlighting academic programs, career opportunities, and alumni outcomes.
- Enhance community visibility through effective marketing of public and special events including lectures, symposia, and performances.
- Manage the design, content creation, publication of newsletters, vendor relationships, and coordination of photography.
- Amplify alumni success stories and coordinate marketing opportunities with alumni relations.
- Plan, write, edit, produce, and disseminate a variety of marketing and communications materials including press releases, website copy, and brochures.
- Design and coordinate the printing and distribution of college invitations and related communications.
- Plan and execute advertising strategies within established budgets.
- Enhance college websites and build social media presence by creating, scheduling, and monitoring posts on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
- Assist with scripting and development of video content and manage student workers/graduate assistants.
- Consult with college departments to maintain brand standards and identify marketing opportunities.
- Coordinate event marketing and documentation for college events.
- Ensure regular attendance and work additional hours as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of five years of experience in marketing, journalism, communications, or public relations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Exceptional written communications skills with experience in planning and producing compelling communications campaigns across various platforms (print, online, e-news, social media).
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences including students, faculty, staff, and the community while maintaining effective working relationships.
