Job Description

Position Overview

This role is located in the Brainerd Lakes Area of Minnesota and requires in-person attendance – no remote work is available. As the Director of Marketing and Public Relations, you will lead the development and execution of strategic marketing and communication initiatives that strengthen the brand, promote our reputation, and advance our mission. You will shape the organization’s executive voice through leadership communications, financial report summaries, and the annual strategic plan while serving as the primary media spokesperson.

You will collaborate closely with executives, providers, staff, and community partners – including our physicians and clinical leaders – to ensure that marketing strategies align with organizational priorities and drive engagement and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all marketing and public relations efforts across digital, traditional (radio, television, print), and social media platforms to ensure consistency and engagement.
  • Develop and deliver compelling, high-quality content to enhance brand visibility and public awareness.
  • Guide the creation of executive communications including CEO messages, system-wide emails, financial report summaries, and the annual strategic plan.
  • Provide direction to the marketing team on creative design and development of events, campaigns, and promotional assets.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Foundation and Community Engagement on public initiatives, fundraising campaigns, and community events.
  • Analyze market trends and campaign performance to refine marketing strategies and optimize impact.
  • Lead, mentor, and empower a high-performing team in a culture of openness, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Manage the department’s budget to ensure strategic allocation of resources.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership including hiring, onboarding, team development, and performance management.
  • Design and execute comprehensive marketing, communications, public relations, and event strategies that align with our mission and vision.
  • Oversee digital platforms and content management, ensuring a consistent and innovative online presence.
  • Serve as the executive media representative, building strong relationships with media outlets and generating positive coverage.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and community reporting requirements, including CHNA and community benefit reporting.
  • Travel to regional locations as needed to support campaigns, events, and community relations activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Proven leadership experience in marketing, public relations, or communications, ideally within healthcare or a mission-driven organization.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft executive-level communications and serve as a media spokesperson.
  • Demonstrated success collaborating with physicians, executives, and community partners to achieve shared goals.
  • Experience guiding creative teams to develop impactful campaigns, events, and brand assets across digital, print, and social media.
  • Ability to analyze market trends, KPIs, and ROI to refine strategic initiatives.
  • Skilled in balancing strategic oversight with hands-on execution in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related platforms.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Public Relations certification is a plus.
  • Experience designing effective digital marketing programs, optimizing websites for SEO, and ensuring a patient-friendly online experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven track record in building relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in recruiting, developing, and coaching high-performing teams with a growth mindset.
