Job Description

Position Overview

At IMEG – one of the largest design consulting firms in the U.S. and a 100% employee-owned organization – you will join the Detroit, MI office as a Senior Mechanical Designer/Engineer. This role is pivotal in providing leadership, mentoring, and training to less experienced team members while ensuring excellence in design, quality control, and project management across projects of all sizes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete design by discipline for projects of all sizes.
  • Make major design recommendations and decisions with minimal guidance.
  • Plan design work, assign tasks, review junior staff correspondence, and lead quality control efforts.
  • Assume additional duties as assigned.
  • Key skills: leadership, effective oral and written communication, mastery of technical aspects, and strong project management capabilities.
  • Technical Path:
    • Lead aspects of the Technical Operations Team for projects of varying scales.
    • Advise, analyze technical problems, and author technical reports.
    • Oversee project reviews ensuring quality control on large, complex projects.
    • Provide technical assistance on field issues with minimal support.
  • Project Management Path:
    • Serve as Project Manager for large complex projects or multiple smaller ones.
    • Identify prospective clients, assist with marketing efforts, and prepare proposals.
    • Drive business development by securing new work and presenting to clients.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer license preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of qualifying experience
  • Strong leadership, technical mastery, and excellent communication skills
