Job Description
Purpose and Role
The Environmental Engineer - Waste / Water is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, company, and refinery regulations, policies, and procedures related to solid waste, hazardous waste, wastewater, and storm water programs. This includes permitting, training, compliance program management, auditing, and implementing corrective and continuous improvement measures.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance to the refinery on hazardous/non-hazardous waste, wastewater, and storm water management
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and reporting/recordkeeping requirements
- Maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and local organizations
- Participate in the Refinery Emergency Response Team as an advisor
- Manage implementation of SWPPP and SPCC plans
- Develop site compliance plans and procedures for waste, wastewater, and storm water
- Conduct audits and assessments to ensure compliance with environmental programs and regulations
- Develop training materials and awareness programs related to environmental compliance
- Lead the creation of waste profiles for refinery operations and related facilities
- Coordinate with subcontractors for waste handling, disposal, and recycling
- Maintain waste inventories and shipment manifests
- Inspect waste storage areas and spill response equipment
- Perform routine field inspections across facilities
- Respond to regulatory agencies regarding environmental programs and compliance matters
- Assist the Senior Environmental Engineer with air compliance activities
- Cross-train in additional regulatory programs as required
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a science-related field (Environmental or Engineering preferred)
- Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree
- 5-7 years of experience in solid waste, wastewater, or storm water environmental compliance
- Experience in refinery, petrochemical, or chemical industry required
- Air compliance experience is a plus
- Current RCRA Certification required
- Experience with STEERS program required
