Job Description
Position Overview
Under general supervision, responsible for the installation, moves, and changes of the Cisco Unified Communications system PBX. Supports the planning, implementation, and management of institution-wide cable and fiber infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Installs and completes basic programming of VoIP telephones and related PBX equipment.
- Assists with the installation and testing of campus wide network equipment and performs routine maintenance on the switch.
- Assists with the planning and implementation of voice and data related projects by performing site surveys to gather infrastructure requirements.
- Installs and terminates cable plant infrastructure including fiber optic, CAT-5/6 cable, patch panels, 110 & 66 block termination points, and fiber termination boxes.
- Performs site surveys to determine infrastructure requirements on new voice and data projects at existing facilities and new construction.
- Assists with the installation and testing of layer 2 networking equipment.
- Assists in the identification of system/network problems at remote sites.
- Tests, adjusts, and troubleshoots equipment as necessary.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of cable infrastructure requirements including MDF/Main Cross-Connect, Backbone Cabling (Fiber, CAT-5/6), IDF/Horizontal Cross-Connect, and patch cable management.
- Ability to complete installation and basic programming of VoIP and TDM institution-wide PBX systems.
- Skilled with Cisco switches.
- Ability to work independently with strong attention to accuracy and detail.
- Strong multitasking, organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Associate's Degree in Computer Science or a related field is required.
- Three (3) years of related experience is required.
