Job Description

Position Overview

Email Marketing Manager for the Marketing department at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. In this fully onsite, full-time, exempt role reporting to the Director, Digital Marketing and CRM, you are responsible for managing the day-to-day strategy and execution of email and database communication designed to drive institutional objectives, show marketing, brand awareness, and customer retention. You will develop, implement, track, and optimize communication campaigns using best practices and innovative digital strategies.

Location: Onsite. Schedule: Full-Time, Exempt.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide art and copy direction for email communication, leverage existing email templates, create new designs as needed, and manage the template library.
  • Oversee the creation, scheduling, and production of regular email marketing campaigns by collaborating cross-departmentally, making revisions, and obtaining required approvals.
  • Proof all communications for messaging accuracy and functionality, acting as the final checkpoint for database communications across multiple channels.
  • Establish and enforce design standards for emails and database communications to strengthen The Smith Center’s voice and reputation among target audiences.
  • Extract and verify data from CRM systems to ensure accuracy in communications.
  • Build and test automation processes in collaboration with the Director, Digital Marketing and CRM to ensure proper functionality and messaging.
  • Drive strategy and implementation of individual show marketing communications to maximize ticket sales.
  • Maintain and plan the communication calendar, including segmentation recommendations.
  • Develop an SMS strategy to build the SMS database, track sales, and improve current processes.
  • Grow the email list and optimize account tagging for improved audience targeting.
  • Work with marketing and ticketing teams to analyze reports and derive qualitative and quantitative insights.
  • Manage deliverability tools and monitor email penetration to ensure best practices are followed.
  • Own and optimize the email-service-provider (ESP) relationship (with Prospect 2/Active Campaign), acting as The Smith Center’s “super user”.
  • Stay current with digital communication best practices across channels including email and SMS.
  • Monitor industry trends within performing arts organizations to drive continuous improvement in technology and innovation.
  • Update the website as needed and serve as a backup for event creation on The Smith Center website using CMS platforms (Umbraco and Tessitura).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned within the scope of the position.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing or communications.
  • Experience Required: Five or more years of experience in direct marketing and communications, including email creation, deployment, and list segmentation.
  • Experience Required: Five years of management experience over CRM digital teams and/or CRM digital strategy, programming, and budgeting.
  • Strong proficiency in using email service provider platforms such as Active Campaign.
  • Experience with customer databases (e.g., Tessitura) and e-mail design best practices to enhance patron engagement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Highly organized with outstanding time management skills to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities with a talent for interpreting complex data sets.
  • Detail-oriented self-starter with the capability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Ability to create mailing lists and generate reports with multiple variables.
  • Proven experience in project management and handling tight deadlines under pressure.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of Umbraco or similar website content management systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
  • A positive, professional, and adaptable approach to meeting challenges and deadlines.
  • Must be able to perform physical job requirements including extended periods of sitting, occasional lifting up to 40 lbs, and other mobility tasks.
  • Must qualify for any required licenses or permits as mandated by federal, state, or local regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • HTML proficiency is preferred.
  • Experience with graphic design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, or other similar programs.
  • Knowledge of the performing arts and entertainment industry is a plus.
