Position Overview
We are seeking a bold, future-focused Interior Design Director to lead our award-winning Boston interior design practice at Perkins&Will. This isn’t just a leadership role—it’s an opportunity to shape the next era of interior environments at one of the most innovative interdisciplinary design firms. As a member of the studio’s leadership team, you will work closely with the Architecture Design Director to challenge convention, promote sustainability and equity, and elevate the human experience through design.
Compensation: $150,000 - $190,000
Key Responsibilities
- Design Excellence: Lead the creative direction of interior projects, pushing boundaries in sustainability, material health, and craft to design a better, more just world.
- Studio Culture: Shape an inclusive, creative environment by recruiting, mentoring, and growing the next generation of design leaders.
- Client Relationships: Build trust with clients from day one as a strategic partner and design advocate for bold, values-driven design.
- Integrated Collaboration: Collaborate closely with architects, planners, consultants, and researchers to develop interdisciplinary solutions.
- Business Development: Lead pursuits, craft compelling narratives, and represent the Boston studio in interviews and market-facing efforts.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of interior design leadership across various project types (workplace, education, healthcare, civic, etc.).
- Professional licensure (e.g., NCIDQ, Architectural license).
- An inspiring design portfolio featuring recognized or award-winning work.
- Deep fluency in interior codes, systems, and standards.
- Proven experience guiding multidisciplinary teams from concept through delivery.
- Strong client communication, negotiation, and budget management skills.
- Proficiency in Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper, Adobe Suite, Enscape, and VRay.
- Direct experience coordinating consultants, including Lighting, Acoustics, AV, MEPFP, and Structure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in interior design, architecture, or a related field.
- LEED GA required within 6 months of hire; WELL AP or Living Future Accreditation is a plus.
