Job Description

Position Overview

Join Raytheon as a Principal System Safety Engineer on the Air and Space team in Aurora, Colorado. In this role you will work from program initiation through its lifecycle to ensure that products meet stringent safety requirements and that hazards are effectively eliminated or controlled. Your work will directly contribute to making our nation and allies safer by addressing safety challenges in high-stakes defense programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze engineering hardware, mechanical and electrical drawings or schematics to assess fault tolerance, latent hazards, and compliance with safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with system test teams and tactical operation/maintenance groups to ensure proper administrative system safety controls are in place.
  • Interface with integrated product teams to eliminate hazards or provide effective safety controls.
  • Work alongside Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal.
  • Perform System Safety Program or Design analyses, including preparing Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for customer approval.
  • Present safety findings at technical reviews and throughout the safety approval process.
  • Interpret system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards to prepare internal and customer safety reports.
  • Collaborate across multiple disciplines to gain a comprehensive understanding of product architecture and design.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with at least 8 years of relevant Systems or Safety Engineering experience (advanced degree may substitute for additional experience).
  • Proven experience in System Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent Safety Engineering disciplines.
  • Active U.S. government issued TS/SCI security clearance is required; U.S. citizenship is mandatory for clearance eligibility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with DoD System Safety Programs (e.g. MIL-STD-882).
  • Expertise in implementing system and software safety in Agile Development environments.
  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and proposal development.
  • Master’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).

  • Compensation: Salary range of 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD.
