Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Quality Lab Technician to join our team on a part-time basis. In this role, you will be responsible for verifying the quality of incoming steel parts to ensure they meet customer specifications. You will receive comprehensive training to perform various quality assurance tasks, including operating testing equipment and conducting detailed inspections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify the quality of incoming steel parts against customer specifications.
  • Operate cutting wheels to obtain appropriate test sample sizes.
  • Use a mounting press, sand, etch, and polish samples.
  • Conduct hardness tests using Rockwell, micro-hardness, Brinell, and MT-90 testers.
  • Perform additional inspections for flatness, straightness, run-out, drill tests, and surface conditions.
  • Engrave and store tested parts in monthly intervals.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and tags.
  • Maintain general housekeeping standards.
  • Operate a forklift when necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in quality assurance or quality control.
  • Ability to work overtime, including up to 50-hour weeks and potential early or extended shifts.
  • Proficiency in using quality testing equipment such as microscopes and hardness testers.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to work with fractions and decimals.
  • Understanding of manufacturing or industrial environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in quality control for steel or plastic parts.
  • Proficiency in using micrometers, calipers, and various gauges.
  • Good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Willingness to work in a lab environment performing various tests on steel.
  • Strong soft skills, including reliability, trainability, and coachability.

Work Environment

Our facility is a steel heat treating environment with multiple furnaces and conveyors. The role is for the 1st shift, working from 7:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Steel-toed shoes are required for safety.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $20.00
