Position Overview

Position: Market Data Analyst/Market Conduct Examiner (MIA ANALYST II) - #26-009640-0001

The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is an independent State agency regulating Maryland’s $46 billion insurance industry and protecting consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers’ and insurance professionals’ compliance with State law. This Special Appointment position serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority. The position is based in Baltimore City or Hybrid (between office and telework), and is part of the Market Regulation and Professional Licensing Division.

The role provides technical support to the Chief of Market Analysis and assists other senior examiners while conducting market surveillance analyses, reviews, studies, and data calls to ensure compliance with Maryland law.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to the Chief of Market Analysis and the overall Market Regulations and Professional Licensing Unit.
  • Assist the Executive Chief Market Conduct Examiner, Chief Property and Casualty Examiner, and Chief Life and Health Examiner as required.
  • Monitor and assess the insurance industry's compliance with Maryland law and regulations through market surveillance analysis, reviews, studies, and data calls.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience analyzing datasets and qualitative information with appropriate recommendations.
  • Alternatively, a Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Data Analytics, Statistics or a related field can substitute for the required experience, or a Bachelor's degree in a related field plus successful completion of at least one Society of Actuary exam.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Data Analytics.
  • Experience in analysis including descriptive statistics, advanced sorting and filtering using Excel or other software.
  • Proficiency in pivot tables, advanced Microsoft Word editing for drafting letters/reports, advanced conditional formatting and functions (VLookups, HLookups, IF) in Excel.
