Job Description

Position Overview

The PI System Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, integration, and support of the PI System infrastructure including PI Data Archive, Asset Framework (AF), Event Frames, PI Vision, PI Connectors, PI Interfaces, and PI Web API. This role also includes managing OPC UA and KEPWARE integrations, leading small teams and contractors, and supporting advanced analytics initiatives including AI and machine learning applications. The engineer will ensure reliable data acquisition, contextualization, and visualization across the enterprise OT data ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and maintain PI System components including PI Data Archive, AF, Event Frames, PI Vision, and PI Web API.
  • Lead the integration of OPC UA and KEPWARE data sources into the PI System.
  • Manage and lead a small team of contractors to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Develop and maintain PI Connectors, Interfaces, and Relays for real-time data acquisition.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Measurement, Data and IT teams to ensure data systems meet business needs.
  • Support and enhance data contextualization using Asset Framework and Event Frames.
  • Develop dashboards and visualizations in PI Vision and other tools to support operational insights.
  • Implement and support scripting and automation for data processing and reporting (e.g., PowerShell, Python, SQL).
  • Participate in AI and data analytics initiatives leveraging PI System data for predictive insights.
  • Ensure system reliability, performance, and security in compliance with OT cybersecurity standards.
  • Provide training and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in on-call support rotation and assist with patching and system updates.
  • Travel may be required (less than 10%).

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience Required: 5+ years of experience with PI System technologies (PI Data Archive, AF, Vision, Web API).
  • Requirements: Experience with OPC UA, KEPWARE, and industrial data protocols; strong understanding of SCADA, DCS, and PLC systems and their integration with PI.
  • Qualifications: Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, VBScript); experience managing technical teams and contractors; regular and reliable attendance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PI System architecture design and deployment in large-scale environments.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML tools and data analytics platforms (e.g., Azure ML, Power BI, Seeq).
  • Knowledge of OT cybersecurity practices and standards.
  • Experience with PI System upgrades and migrations.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across networked industrial systems.
  • Understanding of natural gas or liquids pipeline operations and midstream business processes.
