Business and Finance Manager
Job Description
Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven Business and Finance Manager to provide financial leadership and oversight for a dynamic church environment. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys both strategic analysis and hands-on financial operations in a collaborative, values-driven setting.
This position partners closely with the Chief Operating Officer and business office team to ensure strong financial stewardship, accurate reporting, and effective internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Oversight & Reporting
- * Maintain integrity of the general ledger and financial systems
- * Review monthly financial statements and analyze results
- * Monitor cash flow and provide insights to leadership
- * Oversee contributions, deposits, and reconciliations
Month-End Close (Review & Oversight)
- * Review journal entries and reconciliations prepared by staff
- * Ensure timely and accurate close processes
Payroll Execution
- * Process bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll
- * Review payroll inputs and ensure compliance
- * Manage payroll-related billing for affiliated entities
Audit & Compliance
- * Lead audit coordination and prepare required schedules
- * Ensure compliance with financial policies and standards
- * Review and file semi-annual sales tax returns
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- * Monitor budget vs. actual performance
- * Support forecasting and financial planning efforts
Foundation & Restricted Funds
- * Oversee accounting and reporting for foundation activity
- * Prepare monthly and quarterly reports
Risk & Insurance
- * Manage insurance processes and claims
- * Support risk management and internal controls
Qualifications
- * Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- * 3+ years of progressive accounting experience (fund accounting preferred)
- * Strong general ledger and month-end close experience
- * Advanced Excel and Microsoft 365 skills
- * High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- * Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- * Experience with ACS or Realm is a plus
- * Experience in a church or nonprofit setting preferred
Schedule & Work Environment
- * 28 hours per week (flexible within weekday business hours)
- * Occasional evening or weekend responsibilities
