Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven Business and Finance Manager to provide financial leadership and oversight for a dynamic church environment. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys both strategic analysis and hands-on financial operations in a collaborative, values-driven setting.

This position partners closely with the Chief Operating Officer and business office team to ensure strong financial stewardship, accurate reporting, and effective internal controls.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Oversight & Reporting

  • * Maintain integrity of the general ledger and financial systems
  • * Review monthly financial statements and analyze results
  • * Monitor cash flow and provide insights to leadership
  • * Oversee contributions, deposits, and reconciliations

Month-End Close (Review & Oversight)

  • * Review journal entries and reconciliations prepared by staff
  • * Ensure timely and accurate close processes

Payroll Execution

  • * Process bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll
  • * Review payroll inputs and ensure compliance
  • * Manage payroll-related billing for affiliated entities

Audit & Compliance

  • * Lead audit coordination and prepare required schedules
  • * Ensure compliance with financial policies and standards
  • * Review and file semi-annual sales tax returns

Budgeting & Financial Planning

  • * Monitor budget vs. actual performance
  • * Support forecasting and financial planning efforts

Foundation & Restricted Funds

  • * Oversee accounting and reporting for foundation activity
  • * Prepare monthly and quarterly reports

Risk & Insurance

  • * Manage insurance processes and claims
  • * Support risk management and internal controls

Qualifications

  • * Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • * 3+ years of progressive accounting experience (fund accounting preferred)
  • * Strong general ledger and month-end close experience
  • * Advanced Excel and Microsoft 365 skills
  • * High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • * Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • * Experience with ACS or Realm is a plus
  • * Experience in a church or nonprofit setting preferred

Schedule & Work Environment

  • * 28 hours per week (flexible within weekday business hours)
  • * Occasional evening or weekend responsibilities
